Melanie Henson

Cat 1 Mountain, Cat 1 Road

Melanie Henson has raced road and mountain bikes since her junior year in college, and she still hasn’t grown out of it. She’s raced for Naked since 2012, and loves the camaraderie, talent and commitment she finds on the team. These days she’s kept busy earning a nursing degree and freelance writing, but she still races mountain bikes whenever she can.
Personal Goal: Do the 6-day (full) Breck Epic

Hometown: Pasadena, CaliforniaCurrent home: DenverRacing disciplines: Former roadie turned mountain biker

Racing since: 2006

Favorite Race/racing highlights: Earning podiums in all but one race last season, plus two state and regional championship medals. I can only hope minimal training goes so well in 2017.

Bikes: Mountain – Liv/Giant Lust, Road – Cervelo R5, Cross/commuter – Felt FX5

Pedal preference: Speedplay on the road, SPD for mtn and cross

Rollers or trainer? Neither – although the computrainer is a necessary evil during long winter months.

Bibs or shorts? Shorts

Skinsuit or kit? Kit, to avoid the “dancing around the porta-potty because I really need to pee” dance

Water or drink mix? Water

Favorite mid-ride nutrition: For huge endeavors, Allen Lim’s rice cakes. For a typical ride, Honeystinger gummies or waffles.

Place I would most like to ride a bike…. On the road, Southern France. On the mountain bike – Slovenia … closer to home – Park City, Utah is the best.

When I am not riding a bike ….. I rock climb, cross country ski, hang out with my husband and husky, travel … but let’s be honest, I mostly have my nose in a textbook these days!
