Race Team
After an extremely successful inaugural year in 2011, the women of Naked Juice Racing set out to not only continue our original mission but to also grow our team. Our goal has been to be a women’s team that not only fosters women’s cycling by supporting teammates and teaching each other to be better racers, but to also give to the community around us and teach children about our love for cycling AND our love for reading-Ride for Reading. Four of the original seven members returned and brought on 17 additional women in 2012 to make the Naked Women’s Cycling team a definite presence on the local and national level. The 20 member squad not only raced every race on the calendar but through our commitment to be more than just bike racers, we were able to help change the racing community for the better. We expect bigger and better things with our team and club of 60 women in 2013.
Why We Ride: Sometimes you do things because you have to and other times, it is because you want to. The riders on the Naked Women’s Racing team see cycling as a unique combination of both need and want, as we all have a passion that encompasses the bike. We have built the team to reflect the desire to be our best, to have fun while supporting women in each type of race, and to support literacy in our local schools through Ride for Reading.
For our third year in a row, we are committed to not only race our hearts out, support each other, and have a blast doing so, but also make a difference in our community. We’ve donated over 5,000 books to three different schools, fundraised nearly $1000, and recruited 100 volunteers to help deliver books by bike in the two short years as a team for Ride for Reading. By focusing our efforts as a team on more than just racing our bikes fast we were able to see the impact we can make on children in our community and each other.
Our strategy worked and we grew….significantly each year. We have readers of our race blogs from the far ends of the globe (South Korea, Australia, Brazil, and France, to list a few). And when our roster opened up, we had requests on a daily basis to join our team. Our passion for bikes and for women’s racing has certainly rubbed off on the Front Range community and the rest of the world. This is why we are adding a club team to our 2013 season. We now do not have to turn away any women looking to try out bicycle racing for the first time.
Our goal for 2013 is the same since founding the team in 2010. We strive to be thoughtful, respected women. We strive to bring numbers to women’s cycling and to bring literacy to our community. We strive to treat our sponsors as if we work for the company ourselves. Bike racing is what we love, but we feel that it is important to also partake in other activities as a team of friends. Our “Naked Women’s Racing” name brings us attention, and we will use it to further our goals on and off the bike.
